June 19, 2002--Carrie McAlpine, a May graduate of Washington State University, has been appointed marketing intern in the University of Delaware athletics department, according to Curt Krouse, UD director of athletics marketing.
A native of Mukilteo, Wash., McAlpine will serve a 10-month internship beginning July 1. She will be responsible for developing and implementing promotions to increase attendance at UD athletic events and for assisting with advertising sales.
McAlpine earned her bachelor's degree in communications with a concentration in public relations from Washington State University in May.
While at Washington State, a member of the Pac-10 Conference, she served as a marketing intern with the Cougar athletics program for two years. She managed promotions and assisted with marketing and advertising for all 17 WSU varsity sports.
McAlpine served as promotions coordinator for the WSU women's swimming and volleyball teams and served as on-court game manager for the volleyball team, which ranked among the top 25 nationally in average attendance and competed in the NCAA tournament. She also participated in the planning for the Pac-10 swimming and diving championships and assisted with the planning and implementing of the Cougar Mania corporate sponsors program for the 2000 and 2001 football seasons.
She also was involved in the National Youth Sports Program camp program and was active with the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority while at Washington State.
McAlpine attended Kamiak High School in Mukilteo, where she was a four-year standout on the track and field team.
