Talk on internationalizing hospitality education set Dec. 10Frederick J. DeMicco, Aramark Chair of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management at the University of Delaware, will deliver his inaugural lecture, "From Aristotle to Aramark: Mega-Event Management in a Global Classroom" on Monday, Dec. 10. The talk, free and open to the public, begins at 4:30 p.m., in the theatre of the Trabant University Center, Main Street and South College Avenue, Newark. The talk will focus on the importance of internationalizing education in hospitality. "These are opportunities for learning that faculty and students can't get from a textbook," DeMicco said. UD Dean Timothy Barnekov attributes DeMicco's success to "moving the University classroom beyond the traditional four walls to a global setting where faculty can see the world through their student's eyes, adding to the richness of class discussions and problem solving in new and culturally diverse settings." DeMicco joined the UD faculty in January. Prior to his appointment, he was associate director and associate professor in the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Recreation Management at Penn State University. His research spans the life cycle from children to mature customers and older employees in the hospitality industry. He also focuses on management and technology solutions to labor and food issues in hospitality. He serves on the editorial boards of many publications and is the author of more than 75 articles in the field of hospitality as well as the co-author of a leading textbook.
