11:05 a.m., Dec. 20, 2002--University of Delaware women's basketball freshman LaShannen Hogue will miss the remainder of the 2002-03 season after suffering torn ligaments in her left knee during practice on Dec. 16.
Hogue, who spent most of the summer recovering from torn ligaments in her right knee, will apply to the NCAA for a medical redshirt. She appeared in three games this season, averaging 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. Hogue posted career highs of 14 points and four rebounds against Manhattan on Nov. 30.
This is a very tough loss for our basketball team, UD Head Coach Tina Martin said. LaShannen had just broken into the rotation and had been a solid contributor for us this season. She's very disappointed.
A 6-foot 1-inch forward, Hogue was an all-league honoree all four years at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, N.Y., scoring more than 1,000 points while being selected a Journal News All-Star each of her three seasons. As a senior, she led her team to a 21-3 mark and the city title en route to being selected Journal News Player of the Year.
The Blue Hens (2-3) return to action Dec. 23 when they play host to Marist at 2 p.m. For more about the Marist game, click here.
