Top ranked ice hockey teams to collide this weekend

The American Collegiate Hockey Association’s top two teams will square off in a regular season showdown for the first time in history when No. 1 Penn State battles No. 2 Delaware in games scheduled Nov. 16-17 at the Fred Rust Ice Arena, Route 896, Newark.

The teams will take the ice at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, and again at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, in the 2,300-seat arena.

Tickets cost $6 for adults, $3 for students and children, and are available at the box offices in the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center box office and the Trabant University Center and through Ticketmaster. Tickets also will be available beginning one hour before game time at the Rust Arena, however advance purchase is recommended.

Radio station WRDX, 94.7, will hold a special promotional event from 7-9 p.m. in conjunction with the game Nov. 16, with prizes before the game and between periods.

Penn State defeated the Fightin’ Blue Hens 7-2 in the 2000-01 ACHA championship game. Delaware shocked the tournament’s top seed, Eastern Michigan, en route to the final.

The UD club team, led by 2000-01 ACHA Coach of the Year Josh Brandwene, graduated just three seniors from last year’s team and is off to a terrific start this season.

Delaware is 11-0-0 after victories over Ohio University last weekend. Penn State is 7-0-1.
