UD's Haugabrook wins multiple honors

10:20 a.m., Nov. 13, 2002--University of Delaware sophomore defensive back Sidney Haugabrook has been honored by four organizations for his play in Saturday’s 37-13 victory over the University of Maine.

Haugabrook was named Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Eastern College Athletic Conference Eastern Defensive Player of the Week and The Sports Network National NCAA Division I-AA Defensive Player of the Week. Also, he was selected to the I-AA.org Weekly Honor Roll.

The sophomore played a big role in Delaware’s victory as he helped the Blue Hens snap a six-game road losing streak and end Maine’s 11-game home winning streak. Delaware is off this week and will end the season Nov. 23 at home against rival Villanova.

Haugabrook posted a game-high nine tackles, including eight solo stops, forced a fumble, broke up a pass, and returned in interceptions 41 yards for a touchdown with 10:03 left to play that put the Hens up 30-7.

Haugabrook’s honor marked the third straight week and fourth time this season that a Delaware defensive player has been honored as Player of the Week by the Atlantic 10. Linebacker Dan Mulhern has been honored three other times this season.

Haugabrook currently ranks second on the team with 74 tackles and has two interceptions. He was named the 2001 Atlantic 10 and ECAC Rookie of the Year, becoming the first defensive player ever to earn those awards.
