May 24, 2002--Two studentsDanielle Holt (left) and Caroline Smithreceived the 2002 Geis Student Research on Women Awards at a May 22 campus ceremony.
Holt, a senior majoring in anthropology and foreign languages and literatures, and Smith, a graduate student in the Department of English, were honored for papers they presented at the annual Geis Conference, held May 6, and cosponsored by the Office of Women's Affairs and the Women's Studies Interdisciplinary Program.
The purpose of the annual conference is to provide recognition for student excellence in research and to share research knowledge about women among a wider audience of faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and the University community.
Holts paper, winner in the undergraduate division, focused on "The Origins of Assistance During Childbirth, and Smiths work, winner in the graduate category, was "Defining Domesticity: Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar and Mademoiselle Magazine."
