Sept. 4, 2002--The University of Delaware field hockey team won its opener and carries a 1-1 record into the Blue Hen Classic tournament, to be held Sept. 6-8 at Rullo Stadium.
Delaware opened with a 2-0 victory over West Chester on Aug. 31, then fell 4-2 to Duke on Sept. 1. Both games were played at Rullo Stadium.
Against West Chester, UD goals were scored by Leih Geib, on an assist by Kim Wagaman, and Erica LaBar, on an assist by Stacey Thomas. Goalkeeper Stephanie Judefind earned her sixth career shutout.
Against Duke, the Hens opened the scoring on a goal by Katie Kelly, who was assisted by Geib.
The Blue Devils scored the next four goals before Wagaman found the net for Delaware.
The Blue Hens return to action Friday night, Sept. 6, when they take on Villanova in the first game of the Blue Hen Classic at 7 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.
Villanova will play Richmond at 1 p.m. Saturday, and UD will play Richmond at 1 p.m. Sunday.
