UD professor of English to read from her poetry on Mother's Day

Fleda Brown, professor of English and poet laureate for the state of Delaware, will read from her latest work at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 12, at St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church, 276 South College Ave., Newark.

A UD faculty member since 1978, Brown has had her work published in Poetry, American Poetry Review, The Kenyon Review and The Southern Review.

Her books include “Fishing With Blood” (1988), which received the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award, and “Do Not Peel the Birches”(1993), winner of the Verna Emery Prize.

Her most recent book is “The Devil’s Child” (1999), and her next book of poetry, “Breathing In, Breathing Out,” has been awarded the Phillip Levine Poetry Prize.

Her awards include the 2001 Winner in Poetry of the Porter Fund Literary Prize and the Kestrel Writing Award for her “Graceland” poetry series.
