International Education Week, Nov. 17-22, offers varied views and tastes of the world
3:55 p.m., Nov. 14, 2002--The University of Delaware celebrates International Education Week, Nov. 17-22, with a variety of activities that are free and open to the public. Special meals with an international flair also are planned for students, and international foods will be featured all week in the food courts of the Trabant University Center and the Perkins Student Center. The weeks festivities begin Sunday, Nov. 17, when the International Film Series presents No Mans Land, an Academy Award-winning Best Foreign Language Film, at 7:30 p.m. in the theatre of the Trabant University Center. On Monday, Nov. 18, an evening of international music begins at 7 p.m. in Bayard Sharp Hall. On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the America and the Global Community Speaker Series will present Susan Rice, director for International Organizations and Peacekeeping at the National Security Council during the Clinton administration, speaking on Managing Allies and Adversaries: A Critique of U.S. National Security Policy at 7:30 p.m. in Mitchell Hall. UD students who recently visited Cuba to attend the conference, The October Crisis: A Political Perspective 40 Years Later, will discuss their experiences at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, in 103 Gore Hall. Ralph J. Begleiter, Rosenberg Professor of Communication and Distinguished Journalist in Residence at UD, who attended the conference, also will speak. On Thursday, Nov. 21, UDs Center for International Studies will host an open house and study abroad photo contest exhibit from noon to 2 p.m. at its new location, 180 South College Ave. The event will give attendees an opportunity to see an exhibition of photos taken by students while on study abroad, to learn more about current programs and how to participate in or direct a program. Also on Nov. 21, a Festival of Nations will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. in The Gallery of the Perkins Student Center. The event is an opportunity to meet people from UDs study abroad destinations. Light refreshments will be served. International dining opportunities for students who eat in dining halls include a selection of world breads in all dining halls during lunch on Monday, Nov. 18. Also that day, Vita Nova will offer an Asian dinner; Kent Dining Hall will offer a Pan African Sampler and Greek dishes will be available in the food courts at Trabant and Perkins. On Tuesday, Nov. 19, an English tea will be offered at lunchtime in the Pencader Dining Hall, Vita Nova will offer a Spanish dinner, Russell Dining Hall will offer a taste of Germany and the food courts in Trabant and Perkins will offer Italian desserts. Additionally, various international desserts will be offered free of charge at 9:30 p.m in the Harrington A/B Lounge. On Wednesday, Nov. 20, French crepes and tarts will be served for lunch in the Rodney Dining Hall and Vita Nova will offer a Mexican dinner. Pencader Dining Hall will feature an Australian Dazzler, and Mexican and Hispanic foods will be available in the food courts of Trabant and Perkins. On Thursday, Nov. 21 Tostada Town will be the theme for lunch in the Russell Dining Hall, Vita Nova will offer a German dinner and all dining halls will offer a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner. The Blue & Gold club will host an international food and wine night and Asian food will be featured in the food courts of Trabant and Perkins. Special dining concludes on Friday, Nov. 22, when Kent Dining Hall will offer Middle Eastern salads and spreads for lunch, Vita Nova will offer an Italian dinner and Rodney Dining Hall will offer classic Asian fare.
