10:05 a.m., Dec. 11, 2002--Each year the College Fund/Coca-Cola Intern Program awards internships and scholarships nationwide to roughly 50 college students of color who are majoring in targeted disciplines. The program increases educational and career opportunities for students who are African American, Hispanic American, Asian Pacific Islander American and American Indian/Alaskan Native.
The unique two-year summer internship program awards recipients an eight- to 10-week summer internship each year. Interns work on projects at a Coca-Cola facility in Atlanta. Interns receive a $10,000 a year academic scholarship, a $2,500 monthly internship salary, housing accommodations in Atlanta, round-trip transportation and local transportation to and from the internship site.
To be eligible for this program, applicants must have and maintain a grade point average of 3.0 throughout their participation in the program. They also must be a sophomore majoring in chemistry, engineering, finance, human resources, information technology, communications, marketing or business.
The application process is quite extensive for this internship program. In addition to the actual application, candidates must include a one-page typed or printed essay, a recommendation letter from a faculty member, and a spring 2002 official undergraduate transcript. Candidates must interview with the Coca-Cola Co. as well.
Completed applications must be received by Dec. 16. Students will receive a written response from the College Fund by March 31.
