With Commencement scheduled on May 25, seniors at the University of Delaware are, or soon will be, working to secure their place in the workplace. Help in that endeavor is available on campus through the MBNA Career Services Center, located at 401 Academy St.
Marianne Green, assistant director of the center, answered the following questions.
Q. What are some of the things University of Delaware seniors should be doing right now to prepare to enter the job market?
A. Seniors need to prepare their resumes, learn about different methods of searching for a job, attend job fairs and take part in the Campus Interview Program.
The Career Services web site at [www.udel.edu/CSC] has information about career events and workshops taking place; a data base to research employers and a bank of internships, part-time and summer jobs, and volunteer opportunities.
All seniors should attend a Jobs Orientation workshop to obtain general information about services and to understand how to utilize the eRecruiting.com program that manages campus interviews and internships. The calendar of events is on our web site or can be picked up in hard copy from 401 Academy St. Students don't need an appointment to visit the career library. A student assistant should be on duty to provide assistance.
Q. What services are available on campus to help?
A. Career Services provides individual advisement appointments, workshops, job fairs, career research options, a career library, a Campus Interview Program, internship information, etc.
The Morris Library has a collection of career books in its research area.
The Center for Counseling and Student Development offers career interest inventories and career counseling appointments, as well as a career library that is useful for picking a major. Various departments hold their own job fairs and career programs in conjunction with Career Services.
The Career Services web site [www.udel.edu/CSC/] provides one-stop "shopping" for career information, programming, research, graduate school information, pertinent web sites, resume material, job shadowing options and much more.
Students need to become familiar with the Career Services web site and utilize the information.
