British brass band to present clinic Feb. 3

One of the best-known British brass bands, The Black Dyke Mills Brass Band will include the University of Delaware in its three-day U.S. visit this year.

The group will present a free clinic and demonstration from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building, Amstel Avenue and Orchard Road, Newark. According to the band’s spokesperson, “[The clinic] is designed especially for college, adult, community and brass band musicians.”

The Black Dyke Mills, which was founded early in the 19th century, has played numerous concerts during worldwide tours. There are more than 20 recordings currently available, including Christmas Variations, Great British Marches, Sacred Symphonies and Spectacular Classics.

Free, advance tickets for the clinic are available by calling (302) 738-2233, or by sending e-mail to [chessband@aol.com]. Seating is limited.

The program is sponsored by the UD Department of Music and the Chesapeake Brass Band. For additional information on the Black Dyke Mills Brass Band, visit its web site at [www.blackdykeband.co.uk].
