Library administrator elected to national office

June 7, 2002--Paul Anderson, assistant director for library administrative services at the University of Delaware Library, has been elected vice president/president-elect of the Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA).

He also has received the 2002 LAMA Certificate of Achievement Award, which is given to one person each year in recognition of his or her outstanding contributions to the goals of LAMA.

A 17-year UD employee, Anderson came to Delaware as head of the Access Services Department. In addition to supervising the Circulation Unit, he was responsible for Interlibrary Loan, the book stacks, the Reserve Room and the Copy Center.

In 1995, he became the assistant director for administrative services, with responsibility for human resources management, budget and working with facilities projects.

The Library Administration and Management Association, with more than 5,000 members, provides an organizational framework to encourage the study of administrative theory, to improve the practice of administration in libraries and to identify and foster administrative skill.

LAMA also promotes outstanding leadership and management practices and identifies, encourages and nurtures tomorrow’s leaders and managers. The association provides tools that members need to be successful in the ever changing library field.

Anderson, a LAMA member since 1986, has held increasingly responsible positions in the association, including chairperson of the program committee, chairperson of the special conferences and programs committee and chairperson of LAMA's Systems and Services Section.

He received an award of recognition for service on LAMA's National Institute Planning Committee and was a LAMA representative to the American Library Association Conference Committee.

Anderson, a graduate of Miami University in Ohio, earned a master's degree in library and information science from the University of Kentucky and a master's degree in education from the University of Cincinnati.
