Attempted robbery reported near campus

A UD male student walking on Ashley Road just west of South Chapel Street around 12:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, was approached by a man who demanded his wallet. The student refused and attempted to walk away, when the suspect struck him on the back of the head, knocking him to the ground, and punched him several times. A struggle ensued, with the pair exchanging punches, until a vehicle drove by and scared off the suspect. The student was treated for a cracked rib at Christiana Hospital.

There is no evidence at this time that this incident is related to the earlier incidents near the campus.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Newark Police at 366-7111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. Members of the University community are advised to visit Public Safety's web site for tips about personal protection at [http://www.udel.edu/PublicSafety/safetytips.htm].
