Air Force ROTC moves into new home

Lt. Col Charles Bowman, SSgt Verna Brown and Major Michael Pepper of the AF ROTC scan e-mails after moving into their new building on Wyoming Ave.

The Department of Air Force ROTC program moved into its new offices at 314 Wyoming Rd. during spring break.

The 11,700-square-foot building also will house the Department of Military Science Army ROTC program, which will move out of its current office space in Mechanical Hall after the end of spring semester.

The renovated Wyoming Road building has 10 offices on the first floor, six offices on the second floor, three classrooms, one conference room and one combination conference/classroom.

The building also has a shared computer laboratory, a new elevator, restrooms and ramps, which make the building fully accessible.

Air Force ROTC program staff is housed on the second floor; Army ROTC offices will be located on the first floor. The two departments will share the classrooms and conference rooms.

The old Air Force ROTC site on Academy Street was torn down and will be replaced with parking spaces, expanding the lot near the corner of Courtney Street and Academy Street.

After the Army ROTC program vacates Mechanical Hall, the building will be renovated to house the 1,500-piece Paul R. Jones Collection of works by African American artists.
