Review earns top marks againFor the sixth time in 10 years, The Review, UDs independent student newspaper, has received the Associated Collegiate Press' (ACP) highest honor, the "Pacemaker Award," college journalism's most prestigious and oldest prize for general excellence in print and online newspapers. The award signifies The Review's selection by the ACP and the Newspaper Association of America as one of the Top 10 nondaily university papers in the nation. Twelve other Pacemakers were given in the daily newspaper and two-year college divisions. Ten University of Delaware students and Class of 2000 alumni were on hand Oct. 27 at the New Orleans Hyatt Regency when The Review was recognized at an awards program during the ACP's 80th annual National College Media Convention. Eric Townsend, last year's editor-in-chief, was in New Orleans to accept the Pacemaker plaque given to The Review. Judges in the newspaper Pacemaker competition select winners based on coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, design, photography, art and graphics. Judging for the 2001 Newspaper Pacemaker awards was done by professional print journalists from New Orleans. The Review also won another national "Pacemaker" for its online edition. Online Pacemaker Awards are based on design, ease of navigation, writing and editing, graphics and interactivity. More than 2,500 college print, broadcast and online journalists and student media advisers attended the four-day convention in Louisiana.
