1:35 p.m., Dec. 5, 2002--Freshmen and transfer students have a yearbook just for them--The New U: The 2002-03 Directory for New Students at the University of Delaware. The yearbook introduces new students to each other and is a keepsake and record of members of the class of 2006 as they enter a new chapter in their lives.
The New U features photographs and information about freshmen and transfer students, including their hometowns, high schools and hobbies.
The softbound book, featuring a distinctive cover that is a kaleidoscope of campus and student life, also carries information about the University, including campus organizations, web sites to watch, plus photographs of UDs campus. Added attractions are ads and money-saving coupons from local merchants.
Parents who purchased their own personal copies were invited to write a few lines to their students, and many took advantage of the opportunity to send messages.
Some were encouragingSpread your wings and fly. Enjoy this next chapter and experience it fully. Good luck in your first year as a Fighting Blue Hen.
Some were humorousWed like to see you for more than laundry. Best of luck and study hard (Thats study hard, not hardly study). Always remember, 90 percent of success is just showing up.
Others expressed prideWe are so proud of you! Follow your dreams and be true to yourself. Youve already made us proud. Study, party, think, decideconquer! We are so proud of you! UD will help you achieve your dreams and ambitions in life. You are a special young man! We know that your journey over the next four years will pave the way toward an exciting, fulfilling future.
Congratulations were in order as wellCongratulations on being the third generation at UD! Congratulations! Live up to the challenges, have fun and be proud!
The New U is sponsored by the Delaware Undergraduate Student Congress (DUSC) and organized and published by the Office of Public Relations.
Students who pre-ordered copies of The New U may pick them up now at the Office of Public Relations, 150 South College Ave., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., weekdays. Parent copies have been mailed to them. Additional copies are on sale for $25 at the Office of Public Relations.
