10:55 a.m., Dec. 16, 2002--A total of 125 University of Delaware student-athletes have been recognized as Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athletes for the 2001-02 academic year, the conference has announced.
UD was one of five schools to have more than 100 student-athletes honored by the CAA for their efforts in the classroom and the playing field. To be eligible, student-athletes had to be letter winners and maintain a 3.2 or better grade point index for the 2001-02 academic year. Those recognized received certificates and lapel pins honoring their achievements. UDs football and women's rowing teams are not included because football competes in the Atlantic 10 Football Conference and womens rowing is not yet an official CAA sport.
A total of 975 student-athletes were honored by the conference.
We are very pleased to be able to recognize a record number of deserving men and women as CAA Scholar Athletes, CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager said. It is yet another example of the unwavering commitment from our institutions and student-athletes to achieve excellence in the area of academics and athletics.
Five UD student-athletes maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the year: Mike Goodhart (track and field), Sarah Johnson (cross country/track and field), Jessica Urbonas (track and field), Steve Majkrzak (cross country/track and field) and Jennifer Haus (swimming).
