Trustees elect alumnus new chairHoward E. Cosgrove, BE '70M, of Rockland, Del., vice chairman of the UD Board of Trustees, was elected chairman May 25 at the board's semiannual spring meeting at the Trabant University Center, replacing Andrew B. Kirkpatrick Jr. of Wilmington, who stepped down after an 11-year term. Kirkpatrick, who will continue to serve as a trustee, was recognized with a standing ovation.
In addition, Robert A. Fischer Jr., BE '70, of Lewes, who currently serves as secretary-treasurer, and Robert W. Gore, EG '59, of Newark were elected vice chairmen, and Joan Thompson Mobley of Wilmington was elected secretary-treasurer. The terms of all three officers were effective June 1.
In other board business, Cosgrove was elected to a six-year term, and Philip J. Torina Jr., AS '99, of New Rochelle, N.Y., was elected to a one-year term as the recent graduate trustee, replacing Katherine Lee, CHEP '97, of Newark, who has served in that capacity since 1997. The board also passed a special resolution in honor of Lee, expressing "deep gratitude and appreciation" for her service to the board and to the University.
Torina was the 1999 recipient of the Alexander J. Taylor Sr. Award as the outstanding senior man.
