The City of Newark has announced a Fourth of July evening of festivities at the University of Delaware's David M. Nelson Athletic Complex off South College Avenue.

There will be music, fine arts and homemade crafts and games for children.

Guests can enjoy live musical entertainment with The Hook taking the stage at 4 p.m. with rock from the 1990s and beyond. The Honeycombs take over at 5:30 p.m. playing music from the 1950s to present, and Club Phred will close the evening starting at 7:30 p.m. with classic rock hits.

    Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Free parking is available in the UD athletic complex lots and Chrysler Lot No. 2.

Those who attend are asked to leave pets at home as the sights and sounds of the fireworks scare many animals.

The Fourth of July program is funded, in part, by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency committed to promoting and supporting the arts in Delaware. The event is also sponsored by DuPont, DuPont Dow, TD Bank and Delaware Chiropractic.

For cancellation information, call the city's Leisure Time Hot Line at (302) 366-7147.
