Kelly Hennessy, an intern at the University of Delaware's Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD), recently received the National Graduate Student Research Award from the Society of Vocational Psychology. The award was based on research she completed while earning her master's degree at the University of Maryland. After completing the formal process for her master's thesis, she wrote a manuscript-length paper based on the research project. The manuscript also was recently accepted for publication in the Journal of Career Assessment. "My research explores women's experience of simultaneously managing work and family roles," Hennessy said. "I examined the relationships between work/family conflict, support, stress and satisfaction for women who work and have children." Hennessy completed her predoctoral internship in counseling psychology in June at UD. Her doctorate will be conferred in August at the University of Maryland and she will return to UD as a postdoctoral fellow at CCSD in September. "This award is a significant one and very indicative of Dr. Hennessy's bright future as a psychologist," John Bishop, UD associate vice president for counseling and student development, said. "We are extremely pleased that she will continuing her training at the Center for Counseling and Student Development as a postdoctoral fellow in 2007-08."
