Donna Nelson, professor of chemistry at the University of Oklahoma, will lecture on “Science in the New Millennium: Our Grand Challenge,” at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 26, in 116 Purnell Hall, Orchard Road and Amstel Avenue, on the University of Delaware's Newark campus. Sponsored by the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Committee and the Commission on the Status of Women, the event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the lecture.

Nelson has spoken at more than 100 national meetings of professional societies and organizations, at Capitol Hill briefings and on radio and television programs, including the McNeil-Lehrer News Hour. She has won many awards, including the National Science Foundation ADVANCE leadership award, the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Distinguished Scientist of the Year award and the Woman of Courage Award from the National Organization for Women (NOW). In 2005, Nelson became a member of the Minority Health Professions Foundation Hall of Fame.
