In keeping with its commitment to integrity and academic honesty at the University of Delaware, the Office of Judicial Affairs, in conjunction with the Office of Campus Life, is presenting programs dealing with these issues during Integrity Week, Oct. 12-14.

‘An Evening of Integrity and Ethics,” three discussions designed for students, but open to the general public, are being held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12:

  • “To Ethically Go Where No One Has Gone Before,” presented by Michael Fernbacher, coordinator of judicial affairs, using Star Trek clips as a basis to study and discuss ethical dilemmas, 120 Smith Hall, South College and Amstel Avenues, in Newark;
  • “Ethics, Schmethics,” presented by Kathryn Goldman, director of judicial affairs, who will lead students in a discussion of ethics and things to think about when faced with ethical situations, 115 Purnell Hall, Amstel Avenue and Orchard Road, in Newark; and
  • “Plagiarism, Cheating and Fabrication,” presented by Holli Harvey, coordinator of judicial affairs, who will discuss all aspects of the Academic Honesty Policy, why academic honesty matters and what to expect if charged in University judicial system, 140 Smith Hall.

“Faculty Roundtable: Addressing Academic Integrity at the University,” designed for all UD faculty, will be held at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, in 123 Memorial Hall, The Green, on the Newark campus. It will give faculty an opportunity to meet the judicial affairs staff, learn about the Academic Honesty Policy and steps for reporting violations, hear about the judicial system from experienced faculty and learn how to promote integrity in the classroom and syllabus.

In addition, the staff of the Office of Judicial Affairs and other departments will give out Integrity Week information, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, and Thursday, Oct. 14, at a kiosk in the Perkins Student Center, Academy Street, in Newark. Students also may enter a drawing for a $200 University Bookstore gift certificate.

Other reminders of Integrity Week can be found on residence hall bulletin boards. Using materials from the Office of Judicial Affairs, 26 resident assistants have created displays, which will be judged, with the winner receiving a $200 prize.
