Alexander Billon, University of Delaware professor emeritus of business administration, of Newark, is now lecturing in Bulgaria, and two visiting professors, Akhlaq Ahmad, from the University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore, Pakistan, and Cheikh Sene, from Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar-Fann, Senegal, will conduct research at UD through 2005-05 grants from the Fulbright Scholar Program. Billon received a grant to lecture on strategic and international management organization at the Technical University of Sofia in Bulgaria from September-February 2005. Billon also was awarded a Fulbright grant to teach in Kiev, Ukraine, in 1991. He joined the UD faculty in 1965 and retired in 1998. Ahmad, associate professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, will be on the UD campus from December-August 2005. His research is focused on the environmental uses of titanium dioxide semiconducting nanoparticles. Sene, associate professor in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences and Techniques, will be at UD from November-August 2005. His field of research is polycrystalline absorber layers for use in highly efficient photovoltaic cells. This year, approximately 800 U.S. faculty and professionals received Fulbright grants to lecture and conduct research abroad, and a similar number of foreign scholars received awards to come to the U.S., primarily as researchers. With approximately 87,500 U.S. and foreign scholars participating since its inception in 1946, the Fulbright Scholar Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, with additional funding provided by participating governments and host institutions.
