UD’s hockey team will compete in a match against members of the Fire Department of New York at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 22, in the Fred Rust Ice Arena, Route 896, Newark. The game is a benefit for UD’s ice hockey program, and a portion of the proceeds also will go to a charity related to the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The ice hockey program became involved with FDNY because senior forward Dan Howard’s father, Bruce Howard, is a retired member of a New York Fire Department. The FDNY hockey team travels across the U.S., participating in similar functions for charity-related events.

Josh Brandwene, the coach for UD’s ice hockey team, said if the fund raiser is successful it may become an annual event.. Tickets are $10 for adults and UD students and $5 for children under 18. Tickets will be on sale at all UD box offices and at the ice arena on the day of the game. For more information, call (302) 831-2868.
