Andrew Sullivan, award-winning editor, author and essayist, will present “A Conservative’s Case for Gay Marriage” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, at the University of Delaware. His talk, free and open to the public, will be held in the Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center, Academy Street, Newark. He will discuss common arguments for and against same-sex marriage and explain why he, as a conservative, favors it. The lecture will be followed by a question and answer session that will welcome all viewpoints.

Sullivan, a graduate of Oxford and Harvard universities, is currently a writer for The New York Times and The Sunday Times of London, and is a senior editor at The New Republic. He is the author of several books, including “Same-Sex Marriage: Pro and Con” and “Virtually Normal.” He has appeared on many national television and radio talk shows.

In May 1996, he testified before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee in opposition to the Defense of Marriage Act.

Sullivan’s appearance is sponsored by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Community Office, the LGBT Concerns Caucus, HAVEN, the Gender and Sexualities Minor Task Force, the Office of Affirmative Action and Multicultural Programs, the departments of political science and English, the University Honors Program, Students in the Public Interest, the College Republicans, Chase Manhattan Bank and private donors.
