New head named for UD's national alumni club program

Christine Pennington has joined the Office of Alumni and University Relations as an alumni club coordinator with responsibility for the University's nationwide alumni club program.

Pennington, a 1995 graduate of Ohio University, served four years with the Ohio University Alumni Association as a liaison between the students and Ohio's national alumni board, supervising student volunteers and assisting in planning and hosting events.

A native of Portland, Ore., Pennington also was a member of the Greek Program Board, the Student Activities Commission and the Student Alumni Board at Ohio.

Her responsibilities at UD include developing alumni clubs and programs that encourage continued involvement with the University. She also will assist in advising the Student Alumni Association.

She is married to UD alumnus, Chris Pennington, AS '91.

Recent alumni club events

Washington, D.C.: More than 180 alumni and friends attended a gathering April 2 at Buffalo Billiards on Dupont Circle. Robert Davis, assistant vice president for alumni and university relations, and Sharon Dorr, assistant director of alumni relations, represented the University. On June 19, President and Mrs. David P. Roselle hosted another event at the Cosmos Club with 60 alumni and friends attending. Other University representatives attending were Mr. and Mrs. Marion Peavey, Jim Dawson, development associate, and Dorr. Peavey is vice president for development and alumni relations.

The president also served as host for a series of three events in California, with Davis and Dorr also representing the University. Thirty-five alumni and friends attended a brunch April 13 in the Cottage at the Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego. An alumni reception was held in the evening, April 13, at the Marina Beach Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles with more than 80 alums attending, and an alumni reception in San Francisco April 14 was attended by 110 alumni and friends.

Philadelphia: The club was host to a gourmet buffet lunch, May 10, for more than 60 alumni at the 1997 Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River. UD crew teams competed in the event.

Baltimore area: The Baltimore-area club was host of the second annual University of Delaware Night at Camden Yards on July 27. A pre-game dinner was held on the sixth floor of the warehouse overlooking the field, followed by a game between the Orioles and the Texas Rangers. Some 230 alumni and friends attended.
