Explore the 18th-century England of Jane Austen with Lord Addison Tours, on a trip sponsored jointly by the UD Alumni Association and the Historical Society of Delaware. The tour begins with a dinner party at a London hotel. See the Georgian row homes of South Kensington to Tower Bridge, Bloomsbury to the River Thames. End your second day with an early pub supper and theatre in London's renowned West End. Leave London and visit Austen's home village of Chawton. Her house, St. Nicholas Church, the thatched-cottage gardens and the manor where her brother was squire all give a glimpse into the author's life. Visit Stourhead and Mompesson House, which was filmed as Mrs. Jennings' London home in Sense and Sensibility. Tour Dorset and Dorchester and then overnight in the seaside town of Lyme Regis, the principal setting of Persuasion and the film version of The French Lieutenant's Woman. Not to be missed is a visit to Bath, the social gathering spot of 18th-century England. Our route leads to picturesque Lacock Abbey and into the Thames Valley for a pub lunch before arriving back in London, with its broad sweep of parks, museums, shopping and theatres.
