University of Delaware Office of Public Relations The Messenger Vol. 5, No. 4/1996 Apple House converted The historic, octagonal Apple House, located at the entrance to Goodstay Gardens on the UD Wilmington Campus, has been renovated to serve as the garden's visitors' center. Formerly an ice house and then a root cellar, the structure also once stored fruit from the nearby grove of apple trees. Recently, the house and gardens received an Historic Preservation Award from the New Castle County, Del., Historic Review Board. The formal gardens feature gravel walks, boxwood hedges and an extensive and varied collection of plants and flowers. A number of giving opportunities exist in connection with the revival of the Goodstay Gardens. For more information, contact John M.
