New diamond setting for Delaware's donors

Venerable Old College Hall will soon be approached via a
Diamond Walkway-a special area designed to recognize and thank in
a unique way the members of the Delaware Diamonds Society and the
UD Legacy Society.
The walkway, to be installed this summer, will extend from
Main Street to the steps of Old College.
The walkway will feature large, gray pavers forming diamond
shapes in the center with red bricks engraved with the names of
Delaware's most generous donors placed around them.
Established in 1991, the Delaware Diamonds Society
recognizes alumni and friends who have given at least $5,000 to
the University or who have pledged to do so over a five-year
period. Bricks also will recognize members of the Legacy Society,
which honors those persons who have provided for the University's
future by establishing a deferred gift.
Using a computerized process, each brick will be injected
with epoxy after it is engraved with a donor's name. This process
ensures that the bricks and the engraved names do not degrade.
Each year, bricks featuring the names of new members will replace
plain ones in the walkway.
The Diamond Walkway was designed by Ellen Baldo of Chadd's
Ford, Pa.
Anyone who wants to join the Delaware Diamonds Society or
who is interested in making a deferred gift to the University and
becoming a member of the Legacy Society may fill out the forms at
right.
