Messenger - Vol. 4, No. 4, Page 14 1995 Curb-conquering wheelchair Anthony DelNegro, Delaware '95, is shown with his wheelchair that can climb curbs, a senior class project at the University that won him a $1,000 award in a national BF Goodrich Collegiate Inventors contest. The design was part of a team effort that included classmate Gary March, Delaware '94, and their adviser Robert H. Allen, assistant professor of mechanical engineering. One of six national winners, the "Curb Traversing Wheelchair" has tank-like tracks in the rear, allowing the rider to back up to a low barrier such as a curb and climb over it. Funding for the project was provided through a National Science Foundation bioengineering grant to help those with disabilities.
