Messenger - Vol. 4, No. 4, Page 9 1995 Why Delaware? Edgar Johnson, Delaware '67, '70M, has been part of the Blue Hen athletics scene since 1965 when he was a member of the UD swim team. Immediately after graduation, he joined the coaching staff as assistant men's swimming coach under Harry Rawstrom. In 1971, he became head coach of the men's cross-country team, compiling a 70-44 record through 1979. Named head women's swimming coach, he fashioned a 58-4 dual record, taking over from Rawstrom in 1981 as director of aquatics. Three years later, he was named director of athletics, overseeing the University's 22-sport intercollegiate athletics program.
