Summer 1993
Gold Guard

     M. Elizabeth Cloud, Delaware '33, and Robert F. Siemen, Delaware '43,
'55M, '64M, are among 1,800 charter members of the Alumni Association's
Gold Guard who were honored at the Alumni Spring Reunion May 1. Membership
in the Guard is reserved for those who have been alumni for 50 years or
more. Charles M. Forbes, vice president for development and alumni
relations, told the honorees: "Regardless of whether the school was called
Delaware College or Women's College, or now, the University of Delaware,
you recognize this as the place where you received the education necessary
for your successes in life, the place where you met the friends you now see
beside you, the place you want to protect and preserve for future
generations. This University now houses the environment for learning that
you want to guard for the next century's students." The day's events
included a reception at the home of President and Mrs. David P. Roselle,
campus bus tours and a luncheon in the Bob Carpenter Center. Incidentally,
Cloud and Siemen are old friends. Soon after graduating from Delaware,
Cloud was Siemen's eighth-grade science teacher at Bayard Junior High
School in Wilmington, Del.
