Messenger - Vol. 2, No. 1, Page 31 Fall 1992 Wall of Fame adds five alumni In a ceremony April 28, five alumni were added to the University of Delaware Wall of Fame in the Alumni Room of the Perkins Student Center. Established in 1983 by the Board of Trustees, the Wall of Fame recognizes alumni achievements in diverse fields, including business, law, education, the creative and performing arts, athletics, religion, politics, medicine and the military. Januar D. Bove Jr., Delaware '41, was senior partner of the Wilmington law firm of Connolly, Bove, Lodge and Hutz. A graduate of Harvard Law, he was attorney general of the state of Delaware from 1959-1963. He died at age 71 on Oct. 16, 1991. C. Wayne Callaway, Delaware '63, has a private practice in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism and clinical nutrition and is an associate professor of medicine at George Washington University. He is an expert adviser on obesity to the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (National Institutes of Health). Robert W. Gore, Delaware '59, is president of W.L. Gore and Associates Inc., high-technology manufacturers of electronic, medical, industrial and fabrics products. Gore patented a method of insulating electronic cable when he was an engineering student at the University of Delaware. His parents, Bill and Vieve Gore, launched the family's business in the basement of their home, making products based on their son's ideas. He went on to discover a method of expanding the polymer PTFE, which led to GORE-TEX products. Peyton Blanche Hudson, Delaware '57, an international consultant to retailers and manufacturers, is an associate professor of textile and apparel management at North Carolina State University. She wrote the first U.S. textbook on apparel manufacturing. Bruce E. Jarrell, Delaware '69, is chairperson of the department of surgery at the University of Arizona. Previously, he was professor of surgery and director of the transplant program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
