In the market for hands-on learning
The Lerner College of Business and Economics is developing a Financial Technology Center that will enable students to simulate the activities of actual financial markets and gain hands-on experience in pricing and trading financial instruments.
Plans call for a 1,500-square-foot space in Purnell Hall to be equipped with 55 double-flat-panel workstations utilizing the latest and most technologically advanced financial tools and real-time data. It will offer students financial market applications, market data, accounting databases, information systems tools and market research applications
The center will have two wallboards and a ticker tape with real-time data from fixed income, equity and foreign exchange markets and will be equipped with advanced audiovisual systems to facilitate training, demonstrations, seminars and financial simulations.
Faculty members are planning to incorporate use of the center into their coursework, through such activities as market simulations, portfolio construction and risk management.
