Double Dels return

Doris Jolls Boyce AS ’42 and Truxton W. Boyce AS ’41—shown here near Harter Hall on a bicycle built for two—celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary June 27. While on campus, “Dorrie” reigned as May Queen in 1941 and was active with the E-52 Players, while “Trux” played on the tennis and soccer teams and was president of his junior class. They were married at the old St. Thomas Episcopal Church, which has been renamed Bayard Sharp Hall since its restoration in 1999. Truxton, whose family lived in Stanton, Del., recalls selling produce from the family farm each Saturday at the King Street farmers’ market in Wilmington. Doris remembers seeing “Thurston the Magician” at the Hotel du Pont’s Playhouse as a young girl from Newark. Although Truxton’s business interests took the couple and their daughters, Barbara and Virginia, to several different states, they chose to retire to Delaware where they still have many family ties.
