New tool for those with disabilities
The Center for Disabilities Studies at UD and KenCrest, an organization providing services to those with developmental disabilities, in February announced the startup of TransitionMap of Delaware, described as an online “road map from school to the future” for students with disabilities.
The program is targeted to students ages 13-30 who live in Delaware and have developmental disabilities and/or receive special education services. The web page at [www.transitionmapde.org/school/nc.htm] is a one-stop compendium of information on where to find post-high school education, jobs, housing, social and recreational activities, estate and financial planning and health and respite care.
Jennifer Graham, a transition consultant who sits on KenCrest’s board of directors, said the program’s goal is to help families “navigate the maze from school to postschool life.” KenCrest originated TransitionMap in Pennsylvania and, with the assistance of the Center for Disabilities Studies and its lead project coordinator Cory Nourie, adapted it for Delaware.
