Amalia Amaki, artist and assistant professor of Black American Studies, has a mid-career solo exhibit, “Boxes, Buttons and Blues,” at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., on view through Sept. 25.
Jennifer Barker, associate professor of music, has a new CD entitled Geenyoch, believed to be the first classical CD of original compositions to come with a DVD that has music videos of four of the pieces.
John Bishop, associate vice president for counseling and student development, received the achievement award from Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors, its highest honor for counseling center directors.
Dominic DiToro, Edward C. Davis Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was elected to National Academy of Engineers, one of the highest professional distinctions that can be bestowed upon an engineer. UD now has six faculty members in the National Academy of Engineering and one in the National Academy of Sciences.
Steven Eidelman, former executive director of The Arc of the United States, has been named first Robert Edelsohn Chair in Disabilities Studies, established to focus education, research and awareness on the issues involving services to adults with disabilities.
Thomas Hanson, assistant professor of marine biology, received the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Award for Microbial Research, which recognizes and supports the activities of “those faculty members who are most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st Century.”
George Hsiao, who has authored more than 150 papers on mathematics and applied mechanics, oceanic environment, rheology and biomedical engineering, was appointed Carl Rees Professor in Mathematics, named in honor of the distinguished UD faculty member and administrator who died in 1947.
David Hollowell, executive vice president and treasurer, was named an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects, the highest honor bestowed by AIA on a person who is not an architect.
Eric W. Kaler, dean of the College of Engineering and Elizabeth Inez Kelly Professor of Chemical Engineering, received the E. Arthur Trabant Award for Women’s Equity for his ongoing efforts to increase the number of female faculty members in the college and for his initiation of UD’s Women in Engineering and satellite mentoring programs.
Burnaby Munson, who has received accolades as an educator and teacher and his research in mass spectrometry, was appointed C. Eugene Bennett Chair of Chemistry, named in honor of the late research chemist who was known for his work in gas chromatography. He has been a member of the UD faculty since 1967.
Debra Hess Norris, Henry Francis du Pont Chair in Fine Arts, has been appointed to the United States National Commission for UNESCO as representative of heritage preservation
Charles E. Robinson, professor of English, received the outstanding advising and mentoring award from Office of Graduate Studies, recognizing faculty members whose dedication to graduate students and commitment to excellence in graduate training have contributed significantly to the quality of life and professional development of UD graduate students.
David P. Roselle, UD president, received the first Council of Fellows Mentor’s Award from the American Council on Education for his support of the ACE Fellows Program, which identifies and prepares faculty for higher education leadership. Roselle has mentored six ACE Fellows.
