More night football in the fall
Night football is the name of the game in 2003, as the University of Delaware football team will play four games under the lights at Delaware Stadium.
The Fightin' Blue Hens, led by second-year Head Coach K.C. Keeler and captains Mike Adams and Jason Nerys, will open the home season at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, against The Citadel of the Southern Conference.
Other night games, all with 7 p.m. kickoffs, will be Saturday, Sept. 13, against Richmond University; Saturday, Sept. 20, against West Chester University; and Saturday, Oct. 4, against the College of William & Mary. The Richmond game will be part of Freshman Family Weekend, and the West Chester game will be the ever-popular Band Day.
This year's Homecoming game will be at noon, Saturday, Oct. 18, against the University of Rhode Island.
Remaining home games are at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, against the University of Maine, and at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, against the University of Massachusetts. The Maine game will be during Parents and Family Weekend, and the UMass game will be Hall of Fame Day, recognizing new inductees into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame.
For Hen fans looking for a colorful day trip, UD will take on the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25.
Hen hopes are high as senior quarterback Andy Hall, who will work behind a large and experienced line anchored by All-America candidate Nerys, directs the offense. Brian Ingram leads a pack of sophomore receivers expected to complement a sound running game that features seniors Antawn Jenkins and Germaine Bennett.
Defensively, the Hens are solid at linebacker and defensive back, where both Adams, a senior, and Sidney Haugabrook, a junior, are All-America candidates.
