
Two UD graduates participated in the American Football Conference championship game played Jan. 14, 2001, in Oakland, Calif. Rich Gannon, AS '87, left, was quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, who fell 16-3 to the eventual Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens, and Jim Quirk, AS '63, served on the officiating crew. Gannon was injured early in the game when he was driven into the turf by massive Baltimore defensive lineman Tony Siragusa but rebounded to lead the AFC past the NFC 38-17 in the NFL Pro Bowl all-star game Feb. 4 in Honolulu. In the Pro Bowl, Gannon completed 12 passes in 14 attempts for 160 yards and two touchdowns, and was named the Player of the Game.
