
Nearly 250 UD graduates and friends from the Baltimore area and southern Delaware alumni clubs joined to watch the Philadelphia Phillies take on the Baltimore Orioles June 10 at Camden Yards. Before the game, guests enjoyed a buffet dinner on the sixth floor of the Warehouse, which overlooks center field. The Orioles went on to pound the visiting Phillies, 11-4.
Fifty UD alumni and friends gathered June 15 in Boston for Delaware Night. Graduates from 1940 to 2000 shared their Delaware experiences. Boston Alumni Club coordinator Kathleen Lis Dean, AS '91, '93M, hosted the event.
North and Central New Jersey alumni clubs enjoyed a hot, sunny afternoon at the shore June 17 in Belmar. Nearly 200 UD alumni attended. Many tried to stay cool at the barbecue, while others enjoyed volleyball and reconnecting with UD friends on the beach. This annual event is a favorite of young alumni in New Jersey.
More than 40 UD alumni watched the Colorado Rockies come from behind to beat the San Francisco Giants 17-13, June 28, in Denver. The event was organized by Joanne Nawrocki, BE '77, Denver Alumni Club coordinator. The evening began with a reception.
The South Jersey Alumni Club held its first University of Delaware Night July 12 on the patio of Champs in Marlton, N.J. Approximately 50 young alumni attended. More such events are being planned by this club.
Aug. 9 was hot and humid as the Lancaster (Pa.) Area Alumni Club had a night at the ballpark, when the Altoona Curve took on the home team, the Reading Phillies. Alumni enjoyed a pregame barbecue dinner on the left field deck before the game. Club coordinator Laura Lyon Slaymaker, AS '89, hosted the event. The Reading Phillies went on to defeat the Curve 7-5.
On Aug. 26, more than 30 alumni representing New Castle County and the Black Alumni Organization spent a Saturday morning on campus, helping freshmen move into Smyth Hall. Gathering in early morning for juice and doughnuts, the UD alumni on the Arrival Survival team greeted, welcomed and carried luggage for freshmen and their families. Their efforts were greatly appreciated by the new members of the UD community!
More than 75 young alumni and friends met in Hoboken, N.J., Aug. 28 for UD night at the Black Bear Grill. Graduates from 1985 to 2000 gathered to network with other UD alumni who live in the Northern New Jersey/New York City area.
It was a beautiful fall evening Saturday, Sept. 17, on the campus of Hofstra University in Hempsted, N.Y., when UD alumni and friends gathered at the Hofstra University Club for dinner prior to watching the Fightin' Blue Hen football team take on the Hofstra Pride. Nearly 80 Long Island fans joined for dinner under the tent and enjoyed a performance by the UD cheerleading team and a visit by YoUDee, wearing roller blades. The evening ended with the Blue Hens trouncing the previously undefeated Pride, 44-14.
On Sept. 21, some 20 alumni and friends gathered to celebrate the rejuvenation of the Pittsburgh Alumni Club. A number of alumni classes from--'43 to '98--were represented and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to share memories of UD, while networking with fellow alumni in the area.
Alumni in the greater Chicago area gathered Sept. 22 to hear the latest update on the University of Delaware. The Rainforest Café provided the entertaining backdrop to the downtown Chicago gathering. Club coordinator Rob Phillips, AS '87, hosted the event.
