for the Challenges Ahead
For the University, the Library is a hub for the world of ideas. It is a source of enlightenment, enrichment, and entertainment. It is the foundation for scholarship and a resource that benefits every discipline on campus.
In the Morris Library on a typical day, thousands of students, faculty, staff, and Delaware residents can be found making use of one of the region’s top collections. In fact, more than a million people visit the Morris Library annually. Often, visitors to the library are looking for the latest—the latest technology, the latest edition, the latest discovery. The Library provides access to this information for a wide range of users.
For students, the library is vital—as important to their education as the classroom or the research laboratory. In four years on the UD campus, a typical student will visit the Morris Library scores of times—to gather information for term papers, to find a place of quiet refuge for studying, to support research work, to browse at leisure among the open stacks of books and journals, and to access the thousands of electronic references on the Library’s Web site.
Faculty at an institution the caliber of the University of Delaware require in-depth collections to support their research and teaching. With more than 2.3 million volumes, the Library’s collection is broadly based and comprehensive. And new electronic resources have not only broadened and deepened the information available to scholars, but have also made locating the required information faster and easier.
