Campaign Goals

Book Endowments. With a Campaign gift of $10,000 to $100,000, you can establish and name a traditional book endowment. The income from such an endowment helps in the acquisition of the printed word—building quality collections with books and journals that will be used for decades to come. A book endowment provides for collection building over time.

Electronic Resource Endowments. The income from an electronic resource endowment enables the Library to subscribe to or license electronic databases and other computer-based resources that can be made accessible via the Internet and the World Wide Web to University of Delaware students, faculty, and staff. This is the kind of gift that can reach a wide spectrum of faculty and students, thousands of whom search the Library’s electronic resources for information daily. You may establish and name an electronic resource endowment with a minimum Campaign gift of $100,000.

Subject-Area Endowments. You can also designate and name an endowment to support a particular discipline with a gift of $10,000 to $100,000. This can be an ideal way to support an academic area of interest to you, by making the collection in that area more robust, research supportive, and distinguished. The funds from such an endowment may be used to acquire a mixture of printed and electronic resources.

Endowed Library Chairs. The strength of the University of Delaware Library is a reflection of the talent, dedication, and hard work of its librarians. The Library’s staff is the guiding force behind its growth to prominence. Just as professors guide students through the concepts and information comprising a course, librarians develop the resources and create the on-line environment that students, faculty, and staff use for learning and research. Highly trained and knowledgeable, innovative and experienced library staff members are keys to the continuing development of the world-class university library. By designating a fund to endow a named library position, such as the Director of Libraries or the Curator of Special Collections, you can help to retain outstanding librarians and attract the best new librarians to the staff. A Campaign gift of $1-3 million is required to name an endowed library chair.

Naming Opportunities within the Library. The Library relies on the steady support provided by unrestricted endowments. Such funds may be applied to top priorities ranging from journal subscriptions to facility upgrades. With a Campaign gift in the $10,000 to $500,000 range, you can establish a fund that will enable a room in the Morris Library to be named in honor of a family member or colleague.
