Endowed Scholarships. These endowments are crucial to the future health and success of the University’s athletics programs, as we seek to recruit the most qualified and talented student-athletes. Quite simply, talented student-athletes weighing their college options are much more likely to consider an institution with generous scholarship opportunities.
Your support for the Blue Hens is possible at a variety of levels. With a gift of at least $25,000 (the minimum level to establish a scholarship endowment), you can create a partial award. At the $400,000 level, you can establish a full scholarship that will cover almost all of a student-athlete’s expenses for four years. In addition, you can target your support to any one of our 23 teams, or you can leave your scholarship undesignated, enabling the athletic director to focus your generosity on sports with the greatest need.
All gifts toward scholarship endowments are placed in the University’s endowment holdings, where they are pooled for investment purposes. Each year, part of the investment income is used to support student-athletes. The remainder is reinvested in the principal as a protection against inflation and as a tool for growth.
Campaign Goal: $4 million endowment
Director’s Fund for Athletics Excellence. While scholarships are our primary Campaign goal, we also rely on the continuing annual support of our alumni and friends. Through the Campaign, we hope to raise money to provide state-of-the-art equipment, to supply additional funding for recruitment and travel, and to support our student-athletes in their academic careers.
Campaign Goal: $2 million
Athletics Facilities. Gifts in this category will be used to maintain and upgrade our excellent training and practice facilities.
