Dean's Message

The College of Arts and Science is truly the heart of the University of Delaware. It is the University’s largest College, with an enrollment of 8,500 undergraduate and 1,500 graduate students. Our mission is diverse and covers a broad range of academic disciplines. Our students can study in any one of twenty-four departments or in more than a dozen interdisciplinary programs. Our graduate students can choose masters’ degrees from thirty fields or Ph.D.’s from seventeen.

All undergraduates, no matter which College houses their major, take their foundation work in Arts and Science. It is a foundation focused in the tradition of liberal arts, social sciences and scientific inquiry. We strive to develop a broad awareness in our students of the interconnections among many disciplines. Thus, our College plays a central role in the education of all University of Delaware undergraduates.

Arts and Science is home to over 500 dedicated faculty members, many among the top scholars in their fields. They are strongly committed to excellence, working closely with our students, and providing many opportunities for individual study in and out of the classroom. They serve as teachers, mentors, and role models, thus enhancing the learning environment and broadening the educational experience.

As a College, we look to the Campaign for Delaware to assist us in achieving our goals by providing the necessary resources that will enable us to provide the very best educational opportunities possible for students of the University of Delaware. Your investment in the future of these students will ensure we can continue to be on the cutting edge of modern science and technology, as well as maintain and enhance our innovative programs in the arts and social sciences. Please join us as we prepare the next generation for excellence.
