In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, the need for broad-based higher education where students receive firm grounding in the arts, humanities, natural and social sciences has never been greater. Moreover, an educational experience that encourages students to discover for themselves the bridges between disciplines best prepares them to meet a lifetime of challenges with creativity, understanding, and integrity.
The College of Arts and Science at the University of Delaware provides fertile ground for the development of men and women capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century. We ensure that students are well-rounded, that they develop the ability to think critically and synthesize information to solve problems, that they understand the multiple perspectives and diverse ways of thinking underlying various disciplines and cultures, and that they develop the intellectual curiosity and confidence that leads to lifelong learning. The College is a place where both the creation and transmission of knowledge are given equal weight, where teaching both benefits from and inspires scholarship and creative activity, and where innovative programs link various fields of knowledge in unique and informative ways.
A strong College of Arts and Science is the keystone of the research, teaching, and service mission of the University of Delaware. The Campaign for Delaware will build on the College’s strengths in the following concrete ways:
- by providing scholarships and fellowships for talented students,
- by recognizing and supporting outstanding faculty and their research,
- by promoting discovery-based learning opportunities for students,
- by enhancing educational technologies, and
- by supporting innovative education, research, and service initiatives.
