On the Front Line of Discovery The Campaign for Delaware: |
Campaign Goals
Endowed Scholarships. The College is committed to the principle that access to education should not be restricted because of cost. For many outstanding students, scholarships make the university experience possible. Undergraduate scholarships also enable us to compete with other excellent universities for the most gifted students. A scholarship endowment will ensure that young men and women can pursue their educational ambitions at the College for many years to come. Endowed Fellowships. Graduate students contribute to undergraduate education at the College and play an invaluable role in our research endeavors. They are tomorrows leaders in the agriculture and natural resource fields. Fellowships help our graduate students defray tuition and living expenses, freeing them to concentrate on their studies rather than pursuing other means of support. As such, fellowships are a primary means of attracting the very best graduate scholars from around the world to our campus. Endowed Professorships. The strength of the College is a reflection of our faculty. Through their research, professors are a vital source of new knowledge. In the classroom, they are an inspiration to hundreds of students. Through their service to the community, they contribute to the welfare of our region and our nation. To ensure that we can continue to recruit and retain outstanding faculty, we have set a goal to establish three endowed professorships during the Campaign. Endowment for Young Scholar-Teachers. The Colleges continued vitality depends on our ability to compete for the most talented young faculty. Their fresh energy and vision are essential building blocks for the future. In the years to come, their efforts will propel the College to even higher standards of achievement. By contributing funds earmarked for the support of new faculty, you can help get promising careers off to a running start. Discovery-Based Learning Initiative. From class assignments that have students working in teams to solve real-world problems to internships that give students hands-on experience in the professional world, the College is committed to providing students with opportunities to think creatively and independently and to apply their new knowledge. Through the Campaign, you can contribute to a fund designed to help faculty incorporate problem-based learning methods into their courses and to support undergraduates who conduct research, study abroad, or participate in internships. Equipment Support. As an academic unit with significant laboratory demands and research focus, the College is an equipment-intensive enterprise. State-of-the-art facilities like the Allen Laboratory, Fischer Greenhouse, and Lasher Laboratory are crucial to the mission of the College. To remain an educational leader, we must stay abreast of advances in technology. If we are to prepare our students to enter the professional world, they must have hands-on experience using the latest equipment. With a campaign gift to support equipment acquisition, you will ensure that the College has the tools needed to pursue cutting-edge research. Support for Extension and Outreach Programs. The outreach mission of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has touched nearly every citizen in the state. Gifts for camp scholarships, workshop and conference sponsorships, program enhancements, and student internships can provide young people and families access to a variety of educational experiences. Examples include 4-H and youth development programs, where young people develop leadership and team skills, and Great Beginnings, a newsletter mailed to new parents. Delaware Biotechnology Institute. The future of agriculture depends on improved profitability and productivity. Many argue the best way to maintain the competitive advantage of agriculture is to develop new and improved biotechnology-derived products. The Delaware Biotechnology Institute is poised to deliver these advances to address production and environmental issues. Campaign gifts to the DBI will support the application of biotechnology to the critical problems facing Delawares agricultural enterprises. Deans Fund for Academic Excellence and Innovation. Consistent annual support for our programs enables the College to respond quickly and effectively to new faculty and student initiatives; to enhance current academic programs through speakers, seminars, and conferences; to provide professional development resources for faculty and students; and to move in exciting new directions as opportunities arise. Naming opportunities exist for conference rooms in the newly renovated Townsend Hall. |
