| In 1743, the renowned colonial scholar Francis Alison, motivated by a lack of educational opportunities for young men of the Mid-Atlantic region, began teaching a dozen or so students at his home in New London, Pennsylvania. His academy finally settled in Newark, Delaware, where in 1769 the school was chartered as the Academy of Newark.
With the five-year, $225-million Campaign for Delaware, we are enlisting our friends and alumni in an effort to build new legacies for future generations, to ensure that a proud tradition of academic distinction endures.
