Victims have the right to choose counseling, medical treatment, prosecution and reporting of their case, through the University Judicial System and/or the off-campus court system, as well as the right to refuse all of the above without reproach from any University personnel. 2. Victims have the right to be treated with dignity and seriousness by campus personnel. 3. Victims of crimes against the person have the right to be reasonably free from intimidation and harm. 4. University personnel shall be encouraged to inform a victim that: (1) victims are not responsible for crimes against their person; (2) victims are not negligent toward their own safety and thus do not assume the risk of crime; and (3) victims should report their crime despite the possibility of adverse publicity for the University. 5. Victims shall be made aware of existing counseling and other student services available. 6. Victims shall be entitled to the same support opportunities the University permits the accused in a campus disciplinary proceeding. 7. If, in sanctioning the accused, a ban prohibiting contact with the victim or entrance into the victim's residence hall is issued, the victim will be notified that such a ban is in effect. 8. Any victim who does not wish to remain in his/her present residence hall or class section may be granted a transfer to any available housing or class section, or released from the full-year housing contract without penalty. 9. The victim has the right to information regarding the status of his/her case at any point in the University judicial process.
