Voice Mail (V-mail)
All students have a private voice mailbox. Resident students also
have telephone answering mailboxes associated with the phones in their
rooms.
You can reach your private voice mailbox from any telephone-on or
off campus. Private mailbox numbers are published in the "Campus
Directory." A listing of private voice mailboxes is also available
online in U-Discover!
Setting Up Your Private Voice Mailbox
1. Call the voice mail system.
from on-campus: 4000
from off-campus: 831-4000
from Southern Delaware: 645-4000
2. Press the "Star" [*] key.
3. Enter your PRIVATE voice mailbox number.
4. Enter your PIN. This will be the last four digits of your Social
Security Number, initially. You will be asked to change this PIN
while setting up your private mailbox to another four-digit number
that is more secure.
5. Press the "Pound" [#] key.
6. Now follow the voice instructions.
* Select a personal identification number (PIN) between 4 and 10
digits long. Your PIN should be known ONLY to you.
* Record your name.
* Record your personal greeting.
Using Your Private Voice Mailbox
If you want to check the messages in your private voice mailbox,
1. Call the voice mail system.
2. When the system answers, press the "Star" [*] key and your five-
digit private mailbox number.
3. When prompted for the "passcode," enter your private mailbox's PIN.
The voice mail system is not difficult to use-it prompts you for
most actions. You can always get help by pressing the 0 key on your
telephone while you are using voice mail or ask the Help Desk at 831-
6000 or consult@strauss.
Voice Mail in Residence Halls
All resident students have two "voice mailboxes"-a Telephone
Answering Mailbox and a Private Mailbox. Your Telephone Answering
Mailbox is associated with the telephone line in your residence hall
room or apartment. Both you and your roommate(s) use this mailbox.
You, and all other UD students, also have a private mailbox.
Setting Up Your Telephone Answering Voice Mailbox
1. Dial 4000 from your phone to reach the voice mail system.
2. Press the "Pound" [#] key.
3. Now follow the voice instructions.
* Select a personal identification number (PIN) between 4 and 10
digits long. Within UD Voice Mail, your PIN will be referred to as
your PASSCODE.
* Record your name and the name of any roommates.
* Record your personal greeting.
If you want callers to leave private messages for you when you are
not home, you and your roommate(s) can include your private voice
mailbox numbers in the greeting of your telephone answering mailbox.
For example:
You have reached 837-9999. We can't answer the phone right now.
To leave a message for Sarah, enter YYYYY now. To leave a
message for Jessica, enter XXXXX now. To leave a message for
both of us, record your message after the tone.
Replace "837-9999" with your correct telephone number. Replace
"XXXXX" and "YYYYY" with your private voice mailbox numbers.
Voice mail is not difficult to use-it prompts you for most actions.
You can always get help by pressing the 0 key on your telephone while
you are using voice mail or ask the Help Desk at 831-6000 or
consult@strauss.
Using Your Telephone Answering Voice Mailbox
When there are new messages in your telephone answering mailbox, you
will hear a "stutter" dial tone after lifting the receiver. This is
your signal to dial voice mail (4000) and follow the instructions to
access your telephone answering mailbox.
Remember Your PIN-Keep It Secret
Select a PIN that will be easy to remember, but not easy for anyone
to guess. Keep it secret!
